Mantra Mooloolaba Beach

From farm-to-fork eateries to the best in homegrown organic bites and tipples, the Sunshine Coast’s vibrant culinary and wine tasting scene is a world of foodie delights waiting to be discovered. The area has seen an explosion of homegrown micro-breweries and independent distilleries from the hinterland to the coast, with something for every palate. A Taste of Queensland is a must-see tour for all visitors to this booming foodie haven.

We’ve handpicked a selection of three amazing local venues to take you on a tasting tour of the best of the Sunshine Coast’s food scene. Guests can leave the car, kick back and enjoy a full day of tastings from these wonderful homegrown talents, becoming immersed in the fine art of distilling and fermentation with our expert, local knowledge guides and the passionate brewers and distillers themselves.

From our pick-up point at Mantra Mooloolaba Beach, the first stop on our Taste of Queensland tour will be a visit to Sunshine Coast Cider to sample Queensland’s first real sparkling cider from a family of passionate apple lovers. Martin Rellstab, the creator and owner of Sunshine Coast Cider, has cider making in his blood as a fifth generation cidermaker. In fact, ‘Rellstab’ derives from the Swiss word for a fruit milling stick which is also depicted in the family’s coat of arms, dating back as far as 1384.

From the tasting room at their Cidery in Kunda Park guests can enjoy a range of Sunshine Coast Ciders including their speciality ‘Brut Sparkling’, ‘Dry & Still’, ‘Bottle Fermented’, and bestselling ‘Sunshine Cider’. Nibbles and bubbly apples in hand, guests will have the chance to chat all things apple farming, flavours, and varieties with Martin, as they become immersed in the rich history and local knowledge of this Australian Cider Award-winning cidery in the heart of Queensland.

Full of the taste of sunshine apples, our expert guides will take you onwards from Kunda Park to the highest point in Montville, on the Blackall Range, for our second stop on this Taste of Queensland tour; Flame Hill Vineyard. Set amongst 80-year-old vines, Flame Hill is a true paddock-to-plate venue, where cuisine, wine tasting, scenery, setting and hospitality are all in harmony.

Guests can take in the spectacular scenery of rolling green hills and the sea while sipping on 100% estate-grown and hand-harvested wines paired with locally grown, organic bites and local cheeses from the on-site, award-winning restaurant. Fine food and wine tasting, al fresco dining with a view and the best in local produce, this is what the Taste of Queensland is all about.

Meandering downhill from Montville we’ll take a leisurely drive to Woombye, the home of the iconic Big Pineapple, for a top-class digestive. There we will meet four best mates, and the creators of CAVU distillery, to sample their colourful, signature range of homegrown Sunshine & Sons gins, vodkas and liqueurs. The distillery, set up in 2019, is run by ex-drinks industry experts Adam, Daniel, Matt and Michael, who certainly know a thing or two about distilling. Always happy to receive guests to learn more about their story and the process behind their products.

Ending the tour on a high note, guests can enjoy a guided distillery tour, tasting the full range on offer, or simply relax on the terrace with a bespoke Sunshine & Sons cocktail while taking in the lush Sunshine Coast hinterland rainforest.

The perfect end to a delectable day of the sights and flavours of the Sunshine Coast!

Temperatures on the Sunshine Coast are generally warm year round with summer temperatures averaging 17 – 28°C from December to February and autumn temperatures falling between 13 – 25°C from March to May. The coastal location benefits from cooling sea breezes on warmer days.

The Sunshine Coast’s climate remains steady even in the change to winter with temperatures ranging between 7 – 22°C during June to August. Spring is similarly mild with temperatures reaching between 13 – 25°C. Although the Blackall Range can experience temperatures several degrees cooler than other parts of the Sunshine Coast, there is always the trademark sunny weather to keep the climate enjoyable.

Pack insect repellent, sunblock, a sunhat and sunglasses for the warmer months. Comfortable walking shoes are advisable.
